This week was the week of the cast. My group and I needed to have our table cast by the end of this week. Luckily we were successful and were even able to cast two!

We started by building our mould as quick as possible. It was easy enough to manufacture the first couple of components, however, we had a lot of unknown angles to work with which was not easy! We created as much as we physically could, deliberately avoiding the areas which were too difficult to initially calculate. The results of the part of the manufacturing process can be seen below.

The next stage was to create some foam templates that could be used to draw out our last few components. This required a bit of trial and error but we eventually got the measurements that we needed.

Next the last couple of components were screwed onto the mould and we were almost ready to go. We had to make sure to seal any gaps first with tape, which was a tedious process but gave a good result.

After, we used the concrete mixer to prepare our concrete and it was then poured through the holes left in the back of the mould. The concrete had a high amount of aggregate and fibre glass to help with structural integrity.

We were left with (Nao's) Parasitic Table! I think that the whole team feels really proud of how this piece turned out and it functions just the way we all intended.
