Its Finished... Literally.

Since I last wrote I decided to change how my piece communicates with my audience. I decided to not just design my blocks for aesthetic purposes, but more importantly to design the buildings based off of stereotypical building designs for certain buildings like fire stations and factories.

Once I had created these blocks and shaped them into their respective buildings I decided to sand the blocks and the base down and apply an oil finish. I have wanted to maintain as many traditional materials in my product as possible to emphasise how I am trying to encourage children toward traditional block play and toward the basics rather than toward tablets and video games which were not available when I was very young.
I tested olive oil as a finish as it is easily accessible, and it provided a great finish which looked a lot better than the bare wood.

However, I felt I would be able to gain a more golden finish with Danish Oil and therefore used that to finish off the piece.

I am very happy with how the finish came out, now I need to focus on making an instruction leaflet to explain the few rules that do exist for this sandbox toy.
